In order to become a actor by definition, you need training. Granted, I do believe some people are "naturals" or have natural talent, but those muscles need constant flexing . How do you work those muscles on a "smart artist" budget? Well, here are some tips....

1. Study & Watch Film & TV.
What type of roles do you see yourself in? What type of movies attract you. Watch these types of performance and envision. It is great to know great Film & TV.

2. Join a actors group.
There are plenty of actors in your city that meet up weekly or monthly and run scenes together. If you don't know of any groups, maybe you should form your own?

3. Monologues Exercises
Put yourself on tape. 1 monologue a week. If you do this for a year, you will not only have 52 taped monologues but you will also be familiar with 52 different pieces.

Hope this helps!
KD

Dear Actor: What is your Preparation Process

Dear Actor,

Here's the scenario. I will share my experiences with you, my casting do's and don'ts and as much positive advice as I can. Be aware that this is from MY perspective and mine alone. Although we have a lot in common, all Casting Directors are NOT the same, we do not all think a like and we surely have different perspectives on a lot of topics. I hope you all are interested in mine. In a sense, you all will be my diary in this regard as we grow together in this industry. I am not afraid to share my mistakes along with my achievements. You will definitely get to know me. I can promise that.
